Parents, Teachers, & Guardians
Fostering an awareness and appreciation of design helps young people learn about how the buildings around them came to be. It encourages them to think about the different structures around them—how each looks, feels, sounds, and functions. Behind each observation is a conversation about the decisions that architects and other design-team members made for that specific project. This content is designed for you as a parent, teacher, or guardian as you select educational resources for the learners in your home or classroom.
Middle schoolers and teenagers might be curious about what an architect does and what it takes to become an architect in South Dakota. Drawing, creating, and problem-solving are just a few of the interest areas that could lead to a future in architecture. As they develop their skills and explore potential career paths, AIA SD can provide additional resources.
What do architects do?
Architects are dreamers, designers, and doers. Every project starts with a need to make the built environment match how people will use that space. An architect's most important job is to protect the Health, Safety, and Welfare of anyone who will spend time inside a finished building or on site.
