Qualifications:

  • Professional degree in Architecture.
  • 3-10 years post-graduate experience. 
  • Licensed or in the process of getting licensed Architect.

South Dakota State University: Interior Designer/Project Coodinator

The Facilities & Services department at SDSU is seeking an experienced Interior Designer / Project Coordinator to join our Project Management & Engineering team. We are looking for someone who is creative, highly motivated, customer focused, and is able to work effectively both with a team and independently. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work on a University campus which completes a wide variety of projects and will work on all phases of a project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides interior design, planning, project management and support to the campus community and Facilities & Services; Provides research and information for building and room management on ADA accessibility; Implements, maintains and develops standards for interior finishes and furnishings; Participates in facility programming and space planning; Works with a variety of campus customers and contractors to provide safe and comfortable campus facilities; Responsible for managing the campus signage standards and installations; Must be flexible due to the variety of duties and changing demands.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or closely related field, at the time of hire.
  • At least 1 year of experience in Interior Design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level of customer service.
  • Organized, detail and results oriented.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make good decisions.
  • Computer experience must include Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license at time of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Interior Design.
  • Experience or knowledge in managing construction projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit or similar programs is beneficial.

SALARY:

Commensurate with qualifications.

Stone Group Architects: Architect/Project Manager

We are currently seeking an Architect / Project Manager with 5-10 years’ experience to join our team. We are a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business and are looking for someone to join us as we seek work with the Department of Veterans Affairs. VA, healthcare and interior design experience are a plus.  As a Project Manager, you and the Principal Architect are responsible for project financial performance and team communication.  Capable of managing multiple projects during all phases of a project until completion and direct employees and consultants at all levels to ensure that proper steps and procedures are taken and that the work is completed as planned, budgeted, scheduled and in conformance with design intent.  This position will be responsible for leading the project team with the clear goal of providing the highest possible quality of service and client satisfaction along with quality architecture. The Project Manager is to maintain and monitor project profitability and schedule adherence, coordinate and manage project communications, contracts, budgets and schedules.

This position will help with multi-office configuration and travel is required. Current office locations are in Sioux Falls and Sioux City with probable future locations. Travel will primarily be within the Midwest. Additionally, candidates should have experience with healthcare and/or federal projects. This position does offer partnership potential.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the Leadership Team, owner, consultants, and suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors.
  • Participates on and/or leads multiple projects as a Project Manager-Project Architect.
  • Assists senior management in developing and validating project scope and fee, budget, and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process and use past experiences with the VA and/or healthcare to guide the process.
  • Assists in preparing project presentations.  May participate and/or lead client presentations.
  • Assists senior management in the preparation and execution of consultant contracts.
  • Assists with negotiating fees and contracts for services.
  • Incorporates Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Help to guide the selection process for consultant selection for VA leadership on projects

Management

  • Works with Project Architect to avoid or eliminate conflicts in schedule due to the changes in various projects.
  • Plans, organizes and manages project.  Provides on-going communication through team meetings/minutes/up-date memos to project team.
  • Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants and other disciplines to ensure effective communication.
  • Monitors construction administration during the construction phase
  • Conducts project in a manner in accordance with VA standards & FAR Standards.

Client Interface

  • Responsible for maintaining client relationships throughout project.  Keeps client apprised of project progress on regular basis. Initiates and maintains contact with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues. 
  • Consults with client to determine function and spatial requirements and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.  Plans layouts of projects and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.

Business Development

  • Participates in developing annual business plan for the business unit.
  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships.  Listens for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated. 
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Assists in development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.

Staff Development

  • Provides leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed.  Makes recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations for project team and Architecture discipline.  May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of VA & Federal processes, standards and different project methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness. 
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.   
  • Possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.  Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in architectural practice with management experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy.
  • Preferred experience with VA and healthcare
  • Registration as an Architect in a US state and/or jurisdiction recognized by NCARB preferred.
  • LEED credential required within 12 months of employment
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Methodical and thorough approach to work
  • Organized and Good at juggling tasks and prioritizing
  • A great team player and a desire to show initiative

We are currently looking for an Architect with VA, Federal and Medical experience to join our team.  As an Architect and Project Manager, you and the Principal Architect are responsible for project financial performance and team communication.  Capable of managing multiple projects during all phases of a design until completion and direct employees and consultants at all levels to ensure that proper steps and procedures are taken and the work is completed as planned, budgeted, scheduled and in conformance with the owner group and the design intent.  He or She will be responsible for leading the project team with the clear goal of providing the highest possible quality of service and client satisfaction along with quality architecture. Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
  • Participates on and/or leads multiple projects as project Architect or Project Manager.
  • Assists senior management in developing and validating project scope and fee, budget, and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process.

Management

  • Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants and other disciplines to ensure effective communication.
  • Monitors construction administration during the construction phase

Client Interface

  • Responsible for maintaining client relationships throughout project.  Keeps client apprised of project progress on regular basis. Initiates and maintains contact with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination and negotiation of critical issues. 
  • Consults with client to determine function and spatial requirements and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.  Plans layouts of projects and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.

Business Development

  • Participates in developing annual business plan for the business unit.
  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships.  Listens for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated. 
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Assists in development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.

Staff Development

  • Provides leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed.  Makes recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations for project team and Architecture discipline.  May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness. 
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.   
  • Possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.  Master’s degree preferred.

South Dakota State University Department of Architecture: Assistant Professor (tenure-track)


The South Dakota State University Department of Architecture (SDSU DoArch) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2016. Responsibilities include teaching courses within the professional and pre-professional curriculum, pursuing scholarly research related to the discipline, and serving the department as it establishes its standing as a new program. Teaching responsibilities will include design studio, lectures, seminars and workshops within the established media, technology, history and professional practice sequences. New faculty are expected to be self-motivated, willing to act in advisory and leadership roles within the department, and to work in the array of roles especially needed for a small student and faculty count. In 2010, DoArch was launched as the first new architecture program on the Great Plains in a century.  In its first six years the department has established a notable record of engaging regional towns, institutions, and cities as ready and untapped urban laboratories.  In 2015, programs in Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Graphic Design, Architecture, and Studio Arts were brought together to form a new School of Design (SoD) and DoArch moved into a new building with offices, design studios and a 13,000sf workshop outfitted with state of the art manual and CNC fabrication, construction, and manufacturing tools.

DoArch has a unique mandate to remain a small program of no more than 220.  DoArch has already grown to 140 students and 6 faculty. The department offers an NAAB professional accreditation candidate Master of Architecture (M-Arch) degree and a pre-professional 4 year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture (BFA-Arch) degree.  Students matriculate through the M-Arch degree on both a first architecture degree 3+ year path and in a 4+2 formatted path. The professional program looks forward to its final NAAB candidacy visit in fall 2016 and intends to hold full accreditation in 2017.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional degree in Architecture.
  • Professional experience in architecture or a related field.
  • Research agenda appropriate to a professional program in architecture.
  • Teaching agenda appropriate to a professional program in architecture.
  • Experience teaching in an academic design studio.
  • Expertise in building systems, building design, project representation, professional methods, and/or construction technologies.
  • Record of service within the discipline.
  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-professional degree in Architecture.
  • NCARB or CACB certification.
  • Evidence in teaching that supports individual research or scholarship.
  • LEED certification or other evidence of practice grounded in sustainable design.
  • Peer-reviewed scholarship, grantsmanship, and/or awards.
