Interior Designer

Koch Hazard Architects

The Koch Hazard Architects Interior Designer’s job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with communication skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients. The Interior Designer will lead the project’s interior design and specification within the scope of the client’s approved budget. The Interior Designer will work extensively with all project team members and at all phases of the project. The Interior Designer will work diligently to ensure a positive and successful client experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Takes responsibility for interior design for projects.
  • Performs interior design assignments, including: programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, space planning, construction documentation, construction administration, substantial completion punchlists and warranty reviews.
  • Generates program and construction documents in the predominant drafting software used for the construction documents or appropriate software for programming documents, this includes: interior elevations, finish plans, finish details, enlarged casework plans and detailing (as necessary), and room finish schedules.
  • Works independently with oversight from Project Manager and Principal-in-Charge at major milestones.
  • Leads the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting.
  • Researches and stays current with materials, systems, lighting, and other products relevant to interior design.
  • Writes accurate product specifications, budgets, change orders, and performs/checks code reviews.
  • Independently completes submittal reviews.  
  • Takes responsibility for assignments with specified objectives that require investigation of alternatives.
  • Coordinates work with other disciplines.
  • Produces proposals and other documents requested by clients for interiors only projects.
  • Produces furniture and signage packages.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assists in generating additional program documents, such as: interior window types, casework, details, reflected ceiling plans and special interior features in construction documents.
  • Assists in renderings.
  • Assists the Principal-in-Charge in managing client expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field from an accredited school.
  • Min. 5+ years of interior design experience in a professional setting.
  • NCIDQ certification preferred.
  • LEED GA or above certification preferred.
  • Proficient in Revit.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and SketchUp preferred.
  • Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications.

This person will also be responsible for drafting in Revit, and assisting with estimating and specification writing. While prior experience is preferred, it is not required. JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Position would entail:

Stone Group Architects - Specification Writer/Estimator

Stone Group Architects is currently seeking a Specification Writer/Estimator with a minimum of 2 years to serve as a technical liaison to project teams, coordinating project specification deliverables and design guidelines throughout all phases of project design.  This position will also define and provide quality assurance into construction and project documents.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Architectural Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or engineering or equivalent in education or experience preferred
  • Professional architectural registration preferred
  • Proficiency in MasterSpec or BSD SpecLink
  • 2-5 years of professional experience including: 
    • Building technology
    • Code knowledge

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understands the project design requirements and translates those requirements into materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation, and certification testing necessary to provide the narrative descriptions which are used to procure, install and erect building components. 
  • Prepare and review the procurement and contracting requirements, including the Division 1 General Requirement sections. 
  • Performs product research; assists project designers with material selection and system research. 
  • Provides quality management reviews and technical advice in design development through construction document phases. 
  • Acts as a risk management resource to other project leaders. 
  • Develops and maintains relationships with vendors. 
  • Provide development and improvement of Master Specifications including specialized content for project type or regional conditions as well as sustainable content 
  • Assists project managers with review and coordination of project agreements relative to professional service and general condition issues. 
  • Assists project architects and project designers with material and system constructability analysis. 
  • Assists project architects with shop drawing and product substitution review. 
  • Coordinates and reviews consultant technical specifications
  • Participates in project life cycle cost analysis 
  • Maintains technical resource library and list of technical resource contacts. 
  • Archives technical files to ensure consistent project milestone documentation. 
  • May conduct internal specifications training. 
  • Participates in developing and improving document standards and best practice procedures.

  • Participates in developing annual business plan for the business unit.
  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships.  Listens for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated. 
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Assists in development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.

Staff Development

  • Provides leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed.  Makes recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations for project team and Architecture discipline.  May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness. 
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.   
  • Possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required.  Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in architectural practice with management experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy.
  • Registration as an Architect in a US state and/or jurisdiction recognized by NCARB preferred.
  • LEED accreditation or credential required within 12 months of employment
  • Pay attention to detail

  • Organized and Good at juggling tasks and prioritizing
  • A great team player and a desire to show initiative
